The name Kabakum derives from the old Turkish words "kaba" - rough, and "kum" - sand. It describes the unique sand the beach is covered with. The sea bottom around Kabakum is unique, as well. Unlike the other beaches in the Varna region, entering the water the first few meters it is deep enough to dive. Some 10 meters further the water is shallow again. In windy weather there are wonderful waves - an excellent opportunity to practice different water sports.

Varna is the largest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, third-largest in Bulgaria after Sofia and Plovdiv, and 92nd in the European Union, with a population of 357, 281.
